Gerber Group opened its first venue, The Whiskey at the Paramount Hotel, designed by Philippe Starck and David Rockwell. This property is credited with starting the boutique hotel category.

Gerber Group partners with Starwood Hotels & Resorts to develop a distinctive new hotel brand — the now renowned W Hotels® Worldwide. The alliance led to the rapid expansion of Gerber Bars in W Hotels around the country. Several W Hotels opened in New York City including Lexington, The Court, The Tuscany, Times Square, and Union Square. Properties were also opened at W Hotels in Los Angeles, Boston, New Orleans, Mexico City, and Chicago.
